I'm a princess by fate.
For my dragon I wait.
I reject all the princes who come to my gate.
Ancient laws all say
that it should be this way,
and a dragon must carry
a princess away.
Every princess like a princess gets a fairy tale just right.
It's just me without a monster who can fill the world with fright.
People snicker right behind me.
People laugh behind my back. Every princess like a princess.
I'm not sure what I lack.
And over glassy lakes below me and mountains high and perilous I fly.
I fly so freely that I hardly even breathe.
Oh, carry me, reptilian, to distant lands mysterious.
A dragon for each princess on the castle wall I leave.
